PACC and Lions International Celebrate Independence Day

Karachi, August 16, 2026: The Pakistan American Cultural Center (PACC), in collaboration with Lions International, District 305-S, organized a special Independence Day ceremony at the PACC premises to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day with patriotic spirit and national pride.
The ceremony was graced by Lion Shakeel Ahmed Khan, District Governor, Lions International District 305-S, as the Chief Guest. Senior Vice Chairperson and Event Chairperson DG Lion Safia Hassan, PACC President Syed Makhdoom Ali Riaz, members of the Governing Board, and other distinguished guests attended the ceremony.
The celebrations featured an impressive musical performance that captivated the audience. A flag-hoisting ceremony was also held, with participants gathering under the national flag to mark the occasion. Senior journalist Muhammad Afsar Imran, Nusrat Ali, Zafar Iqbal, and other prominent personalities were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, PACC President Syed Makhdoom Ali Riaz welcomed District Governor Shakeel Ahmed Khan and said that his presence was a great source of encouragement for the newly inducted members of the Lions Club. He highlighted the valuable services rendered by Lions Clubs to society and noted that Lions Clubs across Pakistan continue to undertake various welfare initiatives according to their respective capacities, including the distribution of clothes and other essential items among deserving people.
Mr. Makhdoom Riaz further highlighted the longstanding contribution of the Pakistan American Cultural Center, which has been serving the community since 1959. He explained that PACC primarily focuses on two major areas—culture and education—and offers courses in different languages, computer education, and other educational programmes, along with a wide range of cultural activities.
On the occasion of Independence Day, he expressed hope that Pakistan’s youth and students would play an active role in the country’s development and prosperity. He emphasized the importance of translating patriotic sentiments into meaningful action, saying, “I want us not merely to listen to the song ‘We Are a Living Nation’, but to prove in practice that we are indeed a living nation. No one should ever say that we are not a living nation.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Lions District Governor Shakeel Ahmed Khan expressed his appreciation for PACC President Syed Makhdoom Ali Riaz and acknowledged his continued support for Lions International’s activities. He said that whether it was a visit to the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam, a medical camp, or any other programme, Makhdoom Riaz had always stood by them. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude for organizing the Independence Day ceremony and for his continued cooperation.
The ceremony concluded in a spirit of patriotism, unity, and commitment to serving the community and contributing towards the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
